Activity 2 – Interpretive panels

Interpreting Our History

Following the completion of the excavation of Boroughgate, in year 3 of the project, the site was covered again to preserve it for future archaeologists.    To provide a permanent local record, our professional archaeologists will work with the Skelton History Group and local schools to design, produce and install two “Interpretation Panels” next to the Boroughgate site.   The text and images produced for these panels will illustrate both the work that has been carried out during the archaeological investigation and the history that has been revealed during the work.

The proposed type of panel, and a possible layout structure, can be viewed here. The detailed design work of the panels is proceeding with a view to their installation in the spring of 2019.

In the meantime, work has been proceeding to secure a safe footpath access to Boroughgate, to allow the public to view the site and these panels.
